SYNOPSIS
When wildfire threatens a remote region of northern British Columbia, the Cheslatta Carrier Nation and residents of the Southside are forced to confront an impossible choice: evacuate, or remain to protect the land that defines them. Cut off by distance and limited access, the community responds collectively, drawing on Indigenous leadership, cooperation, and generations of lived knowledge to face the fire in near isolation.
In the aftermath, the flames expose more than destruction—revealing the long-erased site of a Cheslatta village and resurfacing a suppressed chapter of history. The Fire In Our Hearts is a portrait of resilience and sovereignty, exploring how community-led action and responsibility shape survival in a world increasingly defined by fire.
